Acitretin works by modulating the growth and differentiation of skin cells, helping to normalize the growth cycle of skin cells in psoriasis patients.

Acitretin regulates the proliferation and differentiation of epidermal keratinocytes, the primary cell type involved in psoriasis. By doing so, it helps to reduce the scaling and inflammation associated with severe psoriasis.
What are possible side effects of acitretin (Soriatane)?
Common side effects of acitretin include:
Dry skin, lips, and eyes
Nosebleeds
Peeling fingertips, hands, or feet
Joint pain or tightness
Changes in blood lipid levels
Elevated liver enzymes
More severe side effects, although rare, can include:
Vision problems
Bone or joint pain
Depression or mood changes
Elevated intracranial pressure
How is acitretin (Soriatane) used?

Precautions:
Acitretin can cause severe birth defects. Women of childbearing age must use effective contraception during treatment and for several years after stopping acitretin.
Avoid alcohol while taking acitretin and for two months after stopping the medication, as this can change acitretin into a drug that stays in the body longer.
Avoid donating blood while taking acitretin and for at least three years after stopping the medication.
